Bronze Awards
2008
Troop 2324, Amanda P., Peyton., Amanda Z., Elizabeth B. and Amanda P.
We are girl Scout troop 2324 in the Rockford girls scout
neighborhood. We have been together since 1st grade we
now have five girls going into 6th grade and have just completed our
bronze award. The bronze award is the highest award that a junior troop
can earn. This award was challenging but fun and something we wanted to
complete in our last year as Juniors.
To earn the award the troop completed and planned a series of events. We chose to help at The Kids Food Basket (KFB) of Grand Rapids. We did a food drives at Belmont Elementary, we helped at a neighborhood dance where we collected food and provided many service hours at the KFB. We worked on our project for seven months in excess of 20 hours.
We learned that the Kids Food Basket helps over 1,400 elementary kids everyday that normally wouldn’t be fed at dinner. The KFB would deliver the sack dinners to the kids at there school during there lunch hour. We have been providing service hours at the KFB since we were in the 1st grade. When our troop helps put at the KFB we pack sack lunches for the kids. We also separate the fruit snacks, juice boxes, and breakfast bars. Decorating sack lunch bags is also a thing we do that brightens a child’s day. We draw little doodles and sometimes write encouraging notes. We also learned that the sack dinners need to be healthy and what it takes to make a healthy lunch. We have all very much enjoyed working there the past few years and they are always open for to volunteers. You should try it sometime and see if you like it.
